Publisher Capcom released today a demo of developer Airtight Games‘ upcoming action shooter Dark Void. It’s downloadable only through File Planet which is a pain but the game demo itself is an absolute thrill for anyone that enjoys first person shooters and/or flight games. The game is to be released on January 19, 2010. Just four days away!

“Dark Void’s unique combination of in-air and on-ground combat creates a thrilling new gameplay dynamic to the third-person shooter experience. Taking 3D action to a whole new level, Dark Void’s vertical combat system allows players to dangle from thousand foot drops as they take cover and drop enemies from above and below, bringing a whole new sense of vulnerability and thrill to the player. Defying gravity in vertical combat is only half the battle as, over time, Will is upgraded to a powerful rocket pack which allows for fierce in-air combat as gamers are able to fly through the void at unparallel speeds shooting down anything that gets in their path. Blasting away at massive bosses has never been this much fun as Dark Void offers a unique grip system made up of a variety of grip-based mini-games including skyjacking UFOs mid-flight.”

Wow! That’s was my initial impression of XSEED Games’ The Wizard of OZ: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road in just a few minutes of play-time after a friend had mentioned he’d given it a try and he was surprisingly impressed.

The Media.Vision developed title is a simple and linear turn-based RPG inspired by the tale of Dorothy and her magical journey through the Land of Oz, revealing a new perspective on what happened after reaching the end of the Yellow Brick Road. The Wizard of OZ is not really a source I’d think to use for an entertaining RPG but Media.Vision has definitely pulled off something unique and incredibly fun. The whole game is controlled entirely with the stylus using a track ball and a few buttons on the bottom screen. The graphics are bright and beautiful. Compared to traditional Japanese console RPGs it’s a bit simple, but it’s got more than enough depth to pull in hard-core fans and keep their attention.

So I purchased Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story a few years ago for my Nintendo DS. I enjoyed it, played through about half of it and got distracted for one reason or another before I ever finished it. Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story
was just recently released by Nintendo and this time… Nintendo absolutely nailed it. I finished Bowser’s Inside Story within a week. The artwork, gameplay and the dialogue (yeah) really kept the game fresh.

Fawful, the villian’s villain in the game, causes Bowser to inhale and swallow Princess Peach, Mario, Luigi and a whole cast of others. Working with Browser Mario & Luigi must solve puzzles and challenges behind the scenes to help Bowser overcome various obstacles and advance the plot. Fawful must be defeated to save Princess Peach, the Mushroom Kingdom as well as the whole world!

I definitely give Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story for Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi a good, solid 9.5 out of 10.

Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort Wii Sports Resort is finally out! Of all the amazing game titles that have been released for Nintendo’s Wii gaming system the bundled Wii Sports has always been one of our family’s most enjoyed titles. Now, Wii Sports Resort comes bundled with the Wii MotionPlus Wii Sports Resort attachment for the Wii Remote. The MotionPlus tracks players’ movements in finer detail and with greater accuracy. This attachment to the Wii Remote controller builds upon the wireless function of the motion-sensing aspect of the controller when used with specially designed games. Gaming options with the new attachment will be greatly expanded. It’s obvious in Wii Sports Resort and should allow for all sorts of better gaming, including fine controls in a Star War light saber dueling game that I’m pretty sure is in the works.

Activities included with Wii Sports Resort include swordplay, wakeboarding, frisbee, archery, basketball, table tennis, bowling, power cruising, canoeing, cycling and air sports. Lots of fun, fun, fun!

Additional Wii MotionPlus Wii Sports Resort attachments sell for $19.99 at places like Amazon, GameStop, Wal-Mart, etc. I know we’ll be picking up at least one more ourselves for the multi-player games available in Wii Sports Resort as well as future Wii game titles that take advantage of the attachment.

Funny thing, to me, anyway… the Nintendo DSi has launched in the US and I had no idea until this evening. Mass appeal in this house, apparently. Maybe some day I’ll get one, but I’m still not sure why I’d “upgrade” to the DSi. What will Nintendo do to get me to feel the desire to leave my DS behind for a DSi?
