I’m going to try to start posting entries every week mentioning music that I come across, new or old, that catches my ear. This week the band is Florence + the Machine Florence + the Machine Cosmic Love, the song is Cosmic Love. I know I’ve listened to their Lungs album before, probably many times, but while on our trip to Birmingham this weekend, half dozed-off, I perked up when Cosmic Love started playing. I really love the harp and drums, as well as her voice, in this song so much. The official site for the band can be found here.

I’m using Fluid with Groove Shark. It’s a great combo. Groove Shark is awesome for finding new music but the non-VIP site had a ad banner on the right side. Normally, I wouldn’t care. But with Fluid, I would like to not have that ad. I’ll probably pay for Groove Shark eventually, once it’s been around and I know it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Here’s the script I use with Fluid. I borrowed some code from someone (credited) and then modified it for my liking. With his original code the site wasn’t centered correctly without the ad. My fix makes it look just like it should– minus the ad.

I’ve never really had headphones or earbuds besides the free pack-ins that come with whatever audio device I’ve purchased or received as a gift in the past. For my iPod Touch I knew I wanted more.

I asked some friends for their opinions and got all kinds of answers… from sticking with the basic Apple buds, to buying a bulk box of $3 earbuds to $500 Shure e5cs. $500 for earbuds used with a compressed, digital music player? No. Never. Insanity.

After I tried a few different earbuds out I chose the
Bose TriPort In-Ear Headphones My New Bose TriPort In Ear Headphones. Not quite inner-ear earbuds, not quite canalphones… the Bose TriPort In-Ear Headphones are a nice hybrid. When I tried them out in the store I had to switch my iPod Touch equalizer from Dance to OFF. Dance seemed to be the best average setting for my included Apple buds but the Bose earbuds sounded best with the EQ turned off. I liked that. With the EQ off I got a nice, rich sound with plenty of bass that didn’t destroy the high end.

I thought maybe I’d get a better deal in Gatlinburg, TN while we were there this past weekend but nope, same retail price at the Bose shop in the outlet mall. I considered the price to be a little too expensive at first, heck I wasn’t even going to buy them, but my wife got ‘em for me while I was in Starbucks. Good thing she did because the more I use my new earbuds the more I know I absolutely love them. The included contoured, soft silicone tips (small, medium, large… the medium set seem to be the perfect size for me) that fit on the earbuds are very comfortable and the earbuds fit nicely without being too tight or too close. Even after hours of wearing ‘em my ears aren’t the slightest bit sore. Great sound. Great comfort. It’s all about being just right.

For those who jog or use their iPod while working out or active around the house or yard a lanyard and a clothing clip are included with the earbuds. I tried both out. I wouldn’t use either daily while just sitting around but I really liked the lanyard for days when I’m out and about. There’s even a leather case to keep everything together when not in use.

These days, for a lot of people, it’s all about the Shure brand and even hearing someone speak of “Bose” makes ‘em cringe. I’m no Bose zealot. I wasn’t going to even consider the Bose In-Ear Headphones at first, but a friend recommended I try both the Bose TriPort In-Ear Headphones and the Shure e2c models. I also tried a bunch of cheaper $50 and down earbuds from Sony, Philips, etc.

The Bose TriPort In-Ear Headphones My New Bose TriPort In Ear Headphones truly surprised me in how much more I enjoyed them over all of the others– in comfort and in sound quality. If you’re looking for some earbuds for your audio device I highly recommend that you at least give these a try. Bose offers a 30-days risk free full refund if you’re unhappy and a 1 year warranty.

Without cheating, what’s so wrong with this Britney Spears song that it’s been banned from American airwaves during daytime hours? It took me two full listens to figure it out. I guess I’m too old to simply get it instantly.

Rachael Yamagata’s Latest album, Elephants…Teeth Sinking Into Heart, was released last September and somehow I didn’t discover it until December or so. Her first album, Happenstance, is one of my absolute favorite albums and Elephants… definitely does not disappoint. It’s divided up into two parts. The first nine songs are brooding and soulful. The last five are anthemic tunes. The two songs below are two of my favorites from the album but all fourteen songs are mind-blowing. The sixth song, Duet, includes ex-boyfriend Ray LaMontagne, who is also an amazing singer and musician. I’ll have to post some stuff from his latest album soon.
