I’m watching the pilot for Jericho like a car wreck. I keep thinking I should stop the show or do something else but I keep watching. It’s been 23 years since The Day After originally broadcast and I’m living in a very different world. The fiction of a nuclear holocaust is thankfully still fiction. But there’s way too many people these days ready to proclaim World War III.
I’m going to be a father soon. I’ve enjoyed the last three years as a step-dad for three great and wonderful boys, but something inside me is changing. I’m beginning to look at the world differently. I wonder what sort of mess we’re bringing this child into. I know, I know, I worry too much and this is just one more thing that I’m being silly over. But stuff like Jericho isn’t ‘neat’ any more– it scares the shit out of me. I’m sure the show will be good. I’m sure the people of Jericho, Kansas will all come together as a community and all that. It’ll show the strength of family and friends working as one. It’ll be patriotic. Most important though is that It’ll entertain. Because if there’s one thing for sure that we should all get out of a post apocalyptic society is entertainment.
Now I’m putting my full attention back on the show. It’s pretty good so far…
