Blizzard today announced that its MMORPG World of Warcraft has hit the 1.5 million mark in subscribers worldwide. Currently available in North America, Korea, and Europe, Blizzard plans to expand in to China and Taiwan soon. Nowhere near as newsworthy, I hit level 56 with my mage on Malygos last night. 60 is just days away…

“All of us at Blizzard are extremely gratified and amazed at the international demand for World of Warcraft,” said Mike Morhaime, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “From region to region, we’ve seen a phenomenal level of enthusiasm for World of Warcraft, and we’re absolutely thrilled people are enjoying the game so much.”

Software Update just notified me that updates for Pages word processor and Keynote presentation software have been released by Apple. The 29 MB Pages 1.0.1 patch corrects “isolated issues that may have affected reliability for some customers and resolves an issue related to deleting complete pages” while the 22 MB Keynote 2.0.1 update provides a fix for “isolated issues that may have affected reliability for some customers”. Neither have been issues for me, but then I’ve only used Keynote twice and Pages a small handful of times since installing the applications.

Born Alice Mary Norton on Feb. 17, 1912, in Cleveland, Andre Norton wrote more than 130 books in many genres during her career of nearly 70 years. How many of those books I personally read, I haven’t a clue. Sadly, I can only remember one title of hers that I read (Merlin’s Mirror), but I know I read many others when I was in middle school. However many I read, she always stood out to me as one of the best in science fiction.

Andre Norton, a prolific and popular science-fiction and fantasy writer whose central theme was the rite of passage to self-realization undertaken by misfits or displaced outsiders, died yesterday of congestive heart failure at her home in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She was 93.

Ouch, I guess I’ve been too busy playing World of Warcraft to notice this great bit of information…

According to eWeek and many other sources, Apple plans to release OSX 10.4 ‘Tiger’ somewhere around the middle of April, perhaps the 15th. Am I excited? You bet! I’ve been trying so hard to not think about Tiger since it was first announced last year. Now, the launch is just weeks away. Woohoo!

In his keynote speech last year to coders, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the product would include over 150 new features and compared Tiger directly with Longhorn, Microsoft Corp.’s next-generation operating system due next year.

“This is years ahead of Longhorn,” Jobs said, while banners around the conference took potshots at its main competitor by proclaiming, “Redmond, start your photocopiers.”
