We’re heading for Gatlinburg, TN for a marriage retreat/whatever with a few other couples from church. Good people are going, it should be fun. But I’m not much thrilled about 8 couples in a town like Gatlinburg and all the shopping junk, etc. I may just have to find a Wi-Fi corner and be anti-social or something when that’s going on. Dreading the drive too. Aren’t I starting off all positive? huh…

UPDATE: Oh…. 8 couples? Oh no. 32 couples. I… had no idea. Joy!

Without cheating, what’s so wrong with this Britney Spears song that it’s been banned from American airwaves during daytime hours? It took me two full listens to figure it out. I guess I’m too old to simply get it instantly.

Rachael Yamagata’s Latest album, Elephants…Teeth Sinking Into Heart, was released last September and somehow I didn’t discover it until December or so. Her first album, Happenstance, is one of my absolute favorite albums and Elephants… definitely does not disappoint. It’s divided up into two parts. The first nine songs are brooding and soulful. The last five are anthemic tunes. The two songs below are two of my favorites from the album but all fourteen songs are mind-blowing. The sixth song, Duet, includes ex-boyfriend Ray LaMontagne, who is also an amazing singer and musician. I’ll have to post some stuff from his latest album soon.

There’ve been times when I writing a post and I’d like to have the headline itself link to the site or page that I’m writing about. I’ve seen it done at a few other sites but never got around to fiddling with it or asking how it was done.

Now Barry of clearskys.net has come up with a simple (hopefully) and easy to use plugin for WordPress that allows the writer to do this. His little plugin will replace the standard permalink with an external URL without any need to modify your sites theme. It even has an extra filter that will replace the permalinks within your RSS feed as well.

But enough talk. I’m testing the plugin now with this post. The headline should link directly to his post about the plugin.

In my last little aside I noted that I had a creeping suspicion that my feed was invalid. Yet NetNewsWire was able to pull my feed. I dug deeper and found the majority of feed readers couldn’t decipher it. Way to go NetNewsWire on pushing on through and not giving up! I wasn’t sure what the heck to do about it though. Then I overheard someone talking about using FeedValidator to help figure out problems he had with his site feeds. After a few minutes with FeedValidator my primary feed is now valid. Weeee!

Somehow I was missing rss_language in the wp_options section of my WordPress database. I added it in manually… All good there now.

<language></language>

When I first noticed that in my feed I had no idea where the language was set, why it wasn’t, where to even begin looking to solve my problem. But I dug through the feed-rss2.php file that by default is in \wp-includes and found

<language><?php echo get_option('rss_language'); ?></language>

so I knew to look for the variable in my database. As I mentioned already, it wasn’t there. But it was easy enough to add. Now all is good.

<language>en</language>

I am very curious why it was missing though.

Next, my 16 Useful Bookmarklets For Your iPhone or iPod Touch was totally funked up. I had a missing “>” repeated over and over and over.

</span</li>

Lastly, this one wasn’t a big deal but I had an “&” in the title of 4 Bit Delight or Windows Bites the Big *&#! when I should have used “&amp;”. Silly me.

Of course, I haven’t checked out my comments feed yet so maybe I’m not done fixing everything after all, but at least I know how to go about it now.
