TextPattern Issues

Okie, so I’ve got a bit of time today to work on one of my sites— the one I have for photos, etc of Aegwyn. Just like Casual Hex I use Textpattern to run the site. While the other site also has its own problems I’m much further along in getting it “done” than I am with this site.
My major issues are always the same. I absolutely love Textpattern. I really do. But when I have issues— it’s finding answers that become an even bigger issue. And often enough, what should be extremely easy is far, far from it.
Moments ago I came across this article, “My State of Textpattern”, which is a response to My State of Textpattern”. Yes, both are different articles by different authors. Each has many things to say about Textpattern that I was never comfortable saying in the TxP forums. Basically, the software is great, but it seems to have lost its direction. The core group behind it have indeed put countless hours into furthering development but lately, now that I’ve finally really gotten into TxP, it seems that perhaps Textpattern needs to go on some heart medicine or get some serious exercise.
The software really is amazing. If you find yourself here (somehow) and you know your way around blog software but you’ve never given Textpattern a look— go do so now. Textpattern needs a big, painful shot in the arm. I have nothing at all against WordPress but while it continues to grow and grow in popularity I do believe that there is plenty of room for another extremely high quality product to gain in popularity as well.
Textpattern. It’s all good.
I’m teetering on the edge of taking the textpattern plunge ….. putting another wordpress site up into the ‘net wild isn’t an option ….. but I’m considering other random solutions like Rails based Mephisto… or a tumblelog sort of setup ….. neither which have the flexibility of TXP I know …. which is why I’m inches away from diving into the TXP …
the usual hesitation to learning-curve, setup/template-design time remains…..
