American Hardcore - Not So Mr. Rogers

American Hardcore is a new documentary on the hardcore music scene of the 80s. Amazingly, it’s actually playing here in Huntsville. The bands— Black Flag, Bad Brains and Minor Threat as well as many others, I never actually got to see live, but they were the inspiration for the bands in Birmingham that my friends and I flocked to every weekend. Though, now that I think of it, Henry Rollins was at the first Lollapalooza, which I did attend (so awesome— the lineup was Jane’s Addiction, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Living Colour, Nine Inch Nails, Ice T, Fishbone, Butthole Surfers, Rollins Band and Violent Femmes). The shows were usually $5-$6 to get in with 3 or 4 bands, always at some run down place in an area of town we had no business in. But it was a blast. Now.. the kiddos would just freak, unable to comprehend that I was into this stuff back then. These days, I’m just their step-dad who’s always making lame jokes. I’m Mr. Rogers, the fun police. Boring. Drew’s well on his way to 14. I’d like to see how well he’d handle being in the middle of a mosh pit with a steel-toed boot up his ass.

Geoff just said “ass”! Mooooooom!
