What do you do when someone isn’t telling you the whole truth about something that may not even matter any more? What about when that someone is someone you trust? What about when you know for a fact there’s more? But you keep reminding yourself it’s all in the past. The issue is behind you. Isn’t it? Why doesn’t it feel that way? Everyone you talk to says to forget about it. But there’s that nagging voice in your head saying that it’s something to remember always and never forget because it was something you thought could never happen and even if a particular event is over it shapes everything in the future. Or does it? It’s not ‘what’, it’s more like the ‘real’ versus the story given. Does it matter? The truth does count for something, doesnt it? Even if the ‘what’ isn’t an issue… the truth always is. Even when it shouldn’t be. Am I rambling? You bet. I’m bothered by something I should let go of and yet I can’t. I… just don’t know. I do know that I want it to go away. I don’t want my inability to forget it become the problem itself.
Confusion.

Holy Terror, Batman!
Frank Miller returns to Batman with an all out fight against Al Qaeda.
It’s been a long time since heroes were used in comics as pure propaganda. As Miller reminded, “Superman punched out Hitler. So did Captain America. That’s one of the things they’re there for.” “These are our folk heroes,” Miller said. “It just seems silly to chase around the Riddler when you’ve got Al Qaeda out there.”

I had a book I was supposed to read a good majority of this weekend. I knew I’d be a little busy but I really didn’t think it would be a problem finding the time to read. Boy, I was so wrong. Friday night Noah had the 2nd game of his basketball tournament. They won! After the game we let Noah pick where we’d eat dinner. He chose Sonic. Not a fave of mine but not terrible. We picked up the food to bring home to eat. Getting home, the 2nd bag with all the fries was missing so Christy made the trip back to retrieve them. (not a great detail, but hold on…) Noah’s next game was noon Saturday, but he and Micah also had a soccer game at 1pm. Obviously Noah couldn’t make both. In the end though all was good as both won their games. The soccer game was very exciting. The kids listened to Christy and excelled at all of their teamwork plays.
Saturday evening we headed out for a special evening with the kids. Dinner was to be at Rollo’s, a local ‘home-cooking’ style restaurant. But what’s that new place next to Rollo’s? It’s Moe’s! Woohoo! Moe’s was one of my favorite places to go in Birmingham and now we have one in Huntsville. Everyone enjoyed their meals too so I know I wont have a hard time getting the family to go back. After dinner we drove to the bowling alley since the kids have been soooo excited about bowling since their recent trip with the Cub Scounts. When they figured out where we were going they could barely sit still in the backseat! Then it all came crashing down– Junior Achievement had every lane and we wouldn’t be able to play until 9pm. That doesn’t work so well with a 5 and 8 year old that were already tired from a busy day! Noah insisting he wasn’t tired, just upset that he couldn’t bowl. But he was rubbing his eyes and resting his head every moment he had when he thought no one was looking. So we headed over to The Deep, a comic and anime shop, to get some dice for Drew. I thought the kids would be so excited going to a comic shop but they didn’t care about anything except the Dragon Ball Z toys. Yawn. Next we were off to Wal-Mart to get the kids belts for church. Not that we hadn’t bought them plenty of belts before but anytime something nice is worn over to their dads… its like a big black hole swallows the clothes up, never to be seen again. Finally, we’re home. But ack, Christy realizes that Drew needs dress pants too, so she heads back to Wal-Mart. Finally (again) we’re all home and soon after we’re all in bed earlier than usual.
Sunday morning– Drew had spent the night next door, promising to be home by 7:30am for church. His father wont let him go out on Saturday nights because of church on Sunday. We thought Drew could handle it. WRONG! Drew didn’t show up. We sent Micah and Noah next door to get him. BANG BANG RING! on the door and no one ever answered. Fine. We’ll just leave Drew and go on to church. We return home around noon and Christy tries next door. BANG BANG RING RING BANG RING BANG RING BANG BANG BANG… and finally someone answers the door. The whole family was still asleep at noon. Drew gets yanked home and chewed out like never before. No more nights out on Saturday as well as a very long list of changes he’ll now be facing. Oh and we give him the dice we made a special trip for. Hope he enjoys them. He forgot to say thanks even after being chewed out about appreciation and responsibility. Whatever. So we finally head out for lunch… Moe’s again? Christy tries to talk the kids into it but we end up at Burger King instead. Blech! Then… it’s bowling!
We bowled a single game and had a blast. I’m horrible. I haven’t bowled in ten years or more. But the kids loved it and I finally got into it about halfway through. I won– with a measly score of 106. See? I am terrible.
We ended the day with snow flurries and a moment’s rest before Christy’s ex comes for the kids. Then Christy drags me to Wal-Mart… again!… short trip though, sigh. Our evening home alone was um, well… we’ll stop here. I’ll just say it was very, very nice. hehe
I think I got around 10 pages read… out of the 150 or so I had hoped to get to.

I was all for defending the Danish comic strips portraying Mohammed in less then favorable ways– being tongue in cheek and so forth. It’s sort of easy to do that with all of the news coverage. People are overreacting. There’s no doubt about it. But after actually sitting down to read more about the purpose behind the comics… I can’t help but think that this was all done to show that in Western society that limits can be pushed. Well, duh. Pushing for the sake of pushing is stupid. However, I would like to imagine that if this ever gets worked out and the right people apologize (yeah, right) that we wont see Muslim mockery of Christianity. It goes both ways. Then again, it’d be nice if those in the West stopped mocking Christianity too. Mock the humans behind any purpose or belief. We’re all fallible. But don’t mock the religions.
