I listen to all sorts of music and when someone asks me what I listen to I usually don’t know where to begin. These days I list a few bands or singers that I’m currently listening to or those I’ve recently discovered. But what about all of the many different types of music that I listen to? That’s where iTunes Signature Maker comes in. Just answer few questions and it will create a wav file containing a nice mix of the latest songs you listened to or those with the highest play counts. It’s rather nifty.

Thanks to the fellows behind MAMP I now have a local copy of WordPress running. I’m really impressed with MAMP. All I had to do to install MAMP was to drag its folder to my Applications folder– instant Apache, MySQL, PHP and phpMyAdmin!. Tossing in WordPress was almost as easy. Now whenever I want to fool around with the layout or a new plugin I can test it locally before I screw up the live site. Such a relief and now I’ll be willing to try out a whole lot more since there wont be such a risk. Weeeee!

All I wanted was to be able to post music every so often if I wanted to. Boy did that turn out to be frustrating. But… I think I’ve got it now.

I’ve been sick for a week now. Actually, I’ve been sick on and off for almost two months. It started after Thanksgiving. I was sick for a few days then poof I was better. Then I’d get sick again, feeling worse than the last. The cycle has repeated four times. This last cycle began last Wednesday. It came on very slowly with only a bit of coughing and sneezing. By Sunday I was a wreck. Fever, chills, severe nasal and chest congestion had me feeling quite miserable. The violent sneezing and coughing was getting the best of me. I was finally considering giving in to Christina’s wish that I see a doctor. But Monday morning I was feeling almost new again. Monday afternoon though Christina called me to meet her because she was having car trouble. After two hours of being out my symptoms were coming back. I had to see a doctor, but it was now evening so I’d do it first thing in the morning.

Wrong.

At 2am I could barely breath. I was coughing so badly and shaking so violently when Christina suggested going to the emergency room, expecting me to veto the idea, I quickly agreed to go. Heading out in to the cold night air had me questioning the trip but I knew I had to go. After a breathing treatment (which didn’t seem to help at all) and a chest x-ray (good grief those plates are cold when you’re already freezing from a fever!) the doctor told me I had severe bronchitis– probably viral. Joy. But just in case he prescribed some antibiotics along with some cough medicine. I’m not thrilled with the over prescription of antibiotics these days but since no blood work was done I’m not taking chances. Which reminds me, I haven’t taken my Azithromycin pill today. So, whatever it is, viral or bacterial, the cough medicine has definitely helped. Maybe, just maybe, the cycle will be broken. I am definitely feeling better today, no more fever or crackling from my lungs when I breathe– and I can actually take in a deep breath without falling into fits of coughing misery. I do hope I’m back at full health soon. We’re supposed to take the kids bowling Saturday evening.

I’ve been a T-Mobile customer for two years. In that time I’ve had two different phones– the Nokia 3390 and Samsung c225. The 3390, as basic as it was, worked absolutely fine for me. But at the one year mark when I added Christina to my plan I wanted color so I went with the c225. Big, fat, ugly mistake. The c225 phones that we both have have been horrible. Reception stinks. The phones lock up regularly. I can’t get the keypad on mine to unlock without fiddling with it forever.

So… now that we’re out of our T-Mobile contract we’ve been looking at new plans and new phones. We thought we’d try Cingular since it supposedly has been coverage in our area. So we dig through the choice of phones available for Cingular and find one we like (or three, but one we like that we can afford to buy two of). But Cingular then denies us because one of us (which one? who knows) supposedly has some outstanding unpaid bills with AT&T Wireless. Uuuhhh, neither of us have ever been with AT&T. Whatever. So we decide we’ll just stay with T-Mobile. What sort of phones do they have? Ugh! Nothing great. We decide maybe we’ll take the Samsung x475. It’s nothing special but hey, it’s cheap (free).

But then yesterday we find out that Cingular seems to have straightened out our issues. So we say wooohooo and go with the Sony Ericcson z520a phones we originally wanted. But our order gets screwed and one phone is shipped while the other isn’t. And I now find out the z520a has been removed from Cingular’s catalog because of memory leak issues. So… am I frustrated yet? Now I have to send back the one we have on its way and select 2 new phones. Maybe the Sony Ericcson w800i? No. It seems to have a “white screen of death” issue. What about the Motorola v557? That looks good, but it’s missing many of the features we liked so much in the z520a and the powerhouse mp3/camera features in the w800i. I don’t care any more though. Really. I’m growing severely tired of this. I just want to stay in touch with my wife and be able to communicate with folks. Is that too much to ask? I’m ready to go back to my 3390.
