I’m watching episode 13 of Doctor Who. Yeah, I paused it for a moment to write a bit here. I don’t read the fan sites, I don’t read all of the extra details on the BBC website. And I’m not sure if the Christmas special, well, I’m not sure what the heck that is or how it fits in. I do know that it’s been a fantastic season and that I’m very glad that Doctor Who is back. I don’t know where Christopher Eccleston rates in the line of UK’s favorite Time Lords but he’s pretty high up there for me. That he’s only doing one season is quite bothersome, I mean, he’s the ninth doctor and we only have a few more slots left in his life. Or is that going to be ignored?
Whatever the case, I’m almost halfway through The Parting of Ways. The Doctor just sent Rose away in the TARDIS and Mickey has spotted her. So far, it’s been a great episode. Full of excitement, thrills and fun. Lots of emotion too, more than I remember in watching previous Doctor Who seasons. I really enjoy the Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper team (John Barrowman is alright) and can’t believe it’s going to be over very soon now. More comments to follow after the show.
Hate, hate, hate saying goodbye to Eccleston as the Doctor. Three times now I’m mentioning him. It’s just a shame he wasn’t into continuing his role, whatever his reasons. This new guy, David Tennant, bah… I dunno. I can’t say I know any more about him than I did Eccleston a year ago. But first (and quick) impressions say he’s not going to be as good. Oh well. Nothing to be done about it now.
I don’t want to be too specific here about the episode, no spoilers here, so I guess I can’t say anything much at all. But it was a fantastic episode. Amazing, incredible, and it ended quite sadly. Only six months until The Christmas Invasion… Yes, I’m curious to see more. So I guess it’s time to dig into some fan sites, other blogs, whatever I can find, to see what others think about season one and the future of Doctor Who.

Only six months? Don’t you mean 6 long months? I think it is such a shame that they are only making 13 episode seasons. I am getting used to the big American productions pumping out up to 28 episodes per season that 13 feels like I am missing out. Even 22 would be better.
Eccleston said that he thought the role of Doctor Who was a ‘poisoned chalice’ for his career. Sadly, Billie Piper (Rose) announced the other week that she intends to leave as well.
I think Tennant will be okay, he is quirky, but not everyone’s ideal Doctor. I think he will find his ‘place’ in time. It was nearly Richard E Grant, and he would have been my favourite choice.
Yes, it will be six long months for one measly episode before we have to wait again for season two to begin. But, Battlestar Galactica is starting up again in a month and there’s also The 4400. Both were also surprises with short first seasons that gathered great attention. I’m hopeful that each will do more than simply fill in the empty gap left by Doctor Who and keep me entertained for a while.
I didn’t recognize Richard E Grant by name, but I looked him up on IMDB and yeah, he does look familiar. I’ve seen a few other things he’s been in but I don’t remember much about him. I wasn’t aware of Doctor Who: Scream of the Shalka either, obviously.
I’m in the states, so I don’t know anything about any of the folks in the show. Billie Piper included, as I gather she’s a pop singer or something? Whatever. The cast of season one was great. Even Noel Clarke managed to not annoy in the last episode.
